Parliament Approves 2016 State Budget Bill

Syrian parliament approved a bill by the Budget and Accounts Committee outlining the state general budget for the 2016 fiscal year on Wednesday.

The budget was set at 1.9 trillion Syrian pounds, an increase of SYP 426 billion (27 percent) compared to 2015, which was just over SYP 1.5 trillion.

Funds allocated for social subsidy, which will go towards stabilizing market prices, are set at SYP 192 billion, while the total allocated sum for social subsidy, which includes all ensuing financial obligations, is estimated at SYP 973 billion.

Funds allocated for salaries, wages, and compensation will be set at SYP 372 billion – 56 billion more than 2015's budget.
