A new round of meetings on Syria is likely to be held in early July in the Kazakh capital of Astana, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov said Tuesday.
Bogdanov told Sputnik news agency that talks are underway with Iran and Turkey to hold the new session after the holy month of Ramadan, noting that a new round of negotiations will be held in Geneva immediately following the Astana meeting.
The Kazakh capital has hosted four meetings on Syria with a focus on Syria’s sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity, as well as bolstering the cease-fire in the country. The Russian memorandum on de-escalation zones was signed in the last Astana meeting held at the beginning of May.
