The Russian Defense Ministry announced on Thursday plans to hold a meeting next Monday in the Kazakh capital of Astana to discuss implementing the peace process in Syria.
In a statement, the ministry said that the Joint Operational Group will comprise experts from Russia, Turkey, Iran and the United Nations to discuss the implementation of the ceasefire agreement, as well as developing measures to monitor and prevent its violations. The meeting will also work to promote confidence building measures and solve issues related to the delivery of humanitarian aid.
The ministry added that the meeting will also discuss means to separate “armed opposition” from the Nusra Front terrorist organization.
The group will hold regular meetings in Astana with participation of representatives from the Syrian government and the “armed opposition.”
