Syria’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Dr. Bashar al-Jaafari, conveyed regret over the spread of terrorism and extremism because of the destructive role taken by a number of countries, notably Saudi Arabia. Jaafari underlined the purpose of the plots against Syria is to fragment its unique structure to justify and facilitate Israel’s goals.
In a statement during a UN high-level meeting on “Promoting Tolerance and Reconciliation: Fostering Peaceful, Inclusive Societies and Countering Violent Extremism” on Tuesday, Jaafari said Syria’s churches and mosques will continue to pray for peace and amity despite the crimes committed by cross-border terrorists.
The UN representative highlighted the purpose of the schemes against Syria is to destroy its unique structure, transforming it into ethnical and sectarian entities to justify Israel’s occupation of the entire Palestinian lands.
Jaafari stressed that ethical, sectarian and religious disputes were never part of the culture of the peoples of the region, adding that the outbreak of terrorism and extremism is the result of the destructive role of a number of regimes, particularly Saudi Arabia. He claimed these regimes work to spread Wahabbism through its educational system, affiliated media outlets and cultural offices inside UN member states.
Jaafari said that the UN sessions on religious tolerance and countering terrorism should be focused on deterring the Saudi regime from supporting terrorism while spreading a barbaric mentality with no links to culture or religion.
The Syrian official also stressed that Qatari and Turkish policies in support of terrorism in Syria and Iraq have left deep wounds which will be difficult to heal, adding that the Syrians reserve their right to hold those responsible for Syrian bloodshed and destruction accountable in accordance with the rules of the international law.
