Interpol Denies Syria Access To Databases, Other Privileges

Head of the Criminal Security Department, Maj. Gen. Nasser Deeb, revealed that the Interpol’s General Secretariat has denied Syria a number of special privileges tied to the Interpol’s global communication system.

The privileges are related to international notices (especially Red Notices). Interpol has prohibited Syria direct entry to any of the organization’s databases, except for the stolen motor vehicle database, indicating that the supervising engineer’s NSO account has been suspended. Access to the said databases was made possible through the now-deactivated NSO account.

Deeb pointed out in an exclusive statement to Al-Watan that the situation in the country has reduced cooperation [with the Interpol], and with the cessation of air traffic, the exchange of prisoners has become limited to deportation at the border or aboard the Syrian Airlines, wherever it reaches.

He added, however, that the Criminal Security’s cooperation with the Interpol has been ongoing, and with all seriousness, within the criminal framework through daily communication and exchanging mail and circulars about wanted persons by Syria or foreign persons who committed crimes that violate the interests of the country.
