On Monday, at the al-Houriyat Palace in the center of Daraa governorate, the governor of Daraa was assaulted by individuals associated with the Eighth Brigade, according to local sources.

The governor of the regime in Daraa, named “Louay Kharta,” was reportedly attacked along with a major general officer by members of the eighth brigade at the Houryat Palace building in Daraa al-Mahatta, which serves as a temporary settlement center.

The sources mentioned that the assault on the officer and the governor of Daraa was prompted by repeated verbal abuse from regime members towards individuals who were queuing up in front of the center for settlement purposes, as well as an attempted arrest of some young men among them.

It was further explained that there is now a significant security presence of regime forces around the Houriyat Palace building due to the recent conflict, leading to a heightened state of tension in the region.

Local media has shared photographs depicting a large gathering of civilians in front of the Houryat Palace, specifically at the Temporary Settlement Center.

The Eighth Brigade holds the most influence in the Daraa governorate, while various smaller local groups affiliated with other security branches are also deployed, with the majority demonstrating loyalty to military security.
