Assad Sacks Top Intelligence Officers After Homs School Bombing

The Syrian president has sacked two officers with the Military Intelligence in Homs, in response to the school bombing fallout days ago, activists said.

Brigadier Abdul Karim al-Salloum, head of the military Intelligence and the head of the security committee in the war-torn city were dismissed in response to the mounting demands by members of the Alawite sect who took to the streets of Homs to protest the horrific twin bombing at the elementary school.

The explosion, which took place nine days ago in the Akrama neighborhood, predominantly populated by Alawites, resulted in the death of 31 people, mostly children, also wounding 74 others.

According to Al-Arabiya, the protest was the first of its kind by members of the Alawite sect from which Bashar al-Assad has drawn staunch support since the 2011 uprising against his rule.
