Opinion: The Chemical Farce in Syria Once Again

Writing for loyalist Al-Watan, Siyah Azzam says the U.S is conspiring with its allies and terror groups in Syria to dismantle the state and depose Assad
Opinion: The Chemical Farce in Syria Once Again

Once again the lie has emerged of the possibility that the Syrian army uses chemical weapons, as a spokesman for the White House claimed that the State Department, the Defense Department and its intelligence agencies all observed measures in the Syrian Shayrat air base indicating preparations for the use of chemical weapons against the Syrian people once again, as they put it. While at the same time, the American ambassador to the United Nations, Nikki Haley, stressed this issue and threatened with full insolence and arrogance that Syria would pay a heavy price for using these weapons and that this threat was a message to Russia and Iran.

For its part, Britain hastened to declare that London would join Washington in a strike on Syria if these weapons were used again, according to its claim, and was followed by French President Emmanuel Macron, who announced that he spoke to U.S. President Donald Trump and coordinated with him on the issue of participation in this strike if it were to happen.

Notably, a new farce is being prepared by America and its allies in coordination with their tools on the ground, including terrorist groups, under a pretext which has no basis in fact and which was previously used in Khan Sheikhoun in April.

Chemical weapons have become an excuse for Washington to carry out aggressive acts against the Syrian state and the Syrian people. As is known, the United States bombed the Shayrat air base with Tomahawk missiles from warships, which damaged the base and martyred a number of soldiers and civilians. When Russia called for an investigation into the use of these weapons in Khan Sheikhoun, as America had claimed, Washington did not respond but instead derailed the formation of a neutral committee to investigate the true perpetrator. This was because it knows full well that the results of any objective and fair investigation will not conclude in its interests, and that it will reveal that these weapons were used by terrorist groups to which the U.S. and its regional agents are linked. It has attempted to pin this accusation onto the Syrian Arab Army and incite against Syria, knowing that the Syrian army has not and will not need to use these weapons, because its other military capabilities have enabled it to inflict destruction against the terrorists — not to mention the fact that Syria does not even possess these chemical weapons.

So, there are a group of terrorists involved in a conspiracy to bring down the Syrian state and its legitimate rulers. They are the ones who used these weapons, to push America and its allies to carry out attacks against the Syrian army in order to weaken it. It has become clear that there are hostile intentions from the United States and its allies to carry out direct military attacks on Syria for a number of reasons, including as a response to the progress which the Syrian army has made on various fronts with record swiftness.
