Government Security Forces Encircle Suweida Bar Association

Following news that lawyers in Suweida were intending to protest, security forces surrounded their office and prevented their actions writes Etihad Press.

Regime security forces cordoned off the Bar Association in Suweida city after receiving information that Suweida lawyers had intended to hold a demonstration demanding release of detainees and implementation of the law.

Dozens of personnel members surrounded the building and were focused on the roads leading to it on Sunday morning.

A lawyer confirmed that they had decided to hold a demonstration in front of the building at 12pm to demand the immediate release of the prisoners of conscience and stop violations of the law by the security apparatus and the security committee in Suweida.

Lawyer Muhannad Baraka said that in the event that security officials were stubborn and insisted on violating the law, then the Bar Association would carry out its duty to defend the law.

Baraka said that seven of the detainees were placed under investigation in the Suweida Central Prison without a lawyer, while other detainees were transferred to Damascus without any legal justification.

No physical altercations occurred between the lawyers and security personnel.
