PYD Accuses Regime of Involvement in Qamishli Bombings

The Asayish forces of the Kurdish Democratic Union Party issued a statement Monday holding the pro-regime National Defense Forces militia responsible for two explosions that hit the city of Qamishli on December 30, 2015.

The statement, which was seen by Al-Souria Net, said that “based on information received from special sources and after conducting investigations, it has become clear to us that the so-called National Defense Forces, loyal to the Assad regime, was involved in the two bombings that occurred in the al-Wasti district of Qamishli on December 30, 2015. It has also become clear that the same group, namely the National Defense Forces, was involved in the bombing on Sunday.”

A bombing on Sunday rocked Qamishli, which is controlled by regime forces and the Kurdish People’s Protection Units. The blast targeted the majority Christian al-Wasti district, killing three people and wounding dozens, according to the preliminary count.

A source told Al-Souria Net that “an internet cafe in Meeami Street in Qamishli was hit by the bombing, carried out by a bag placed inside the cafe.”

Qamishli has seen a number of bombings recently, particularly those on December 30, which targeted several cafes and left a number of people dead and wounded during New Year’s celebrations. Christian groups accused the People’s Protection Units of being behind the attacks.
