Security Council Rejects Trump’s Proclamation

On Wednesday, most members of the Security Council announced their rejection of US President Donald Trump’s proclamation on the occupied Syrian Golan, asserting that the Golan is Syrian land occupied by Israel and this is what the UN resolutions affirmed.

During a session on the situation in the Middle East, members of the Security Council affirmed that any unilateral declaration contradicts the international order and the UN Charter and that international law bans the annexing of lands by force.

Syria’s permanent representative to the UN, Dr. Bashar al-Jaafari said on Wednesday that while they discussed Trump’s illegitimate proclamation regarding the occupied Syrian Golan, Israeli occupation warplanes launched an airstrikes against the industrial region to the east of Aleppo, adding that the Syrian air defenses intercepted and downed a number of the hostile missiles.

Jaafari added that Syria condemns Trump’s proclamation about the Golan and consider it as unilateral behavior issued from a side that has no political, moral or legal capacity to decide the destiny of world or dispose with lands that are part and parcel of the Syrian territories.

He affirmed that the US practices reflect a dangerous and unprecedented inclination towards hindering international law and a contempt for the UN, dealing a blow to the resolutions of the UN Security Council and the General Assembly regarding the inevitability of ending the Israeli occupation to the occupied Arab lands and its withdrawal to the 1967 borders.

Jaafari went on to say that the unilateral behavior is a clear signal that Washington no longer gives any importance to the UN, and has clearly lost its recognition of international legitimacy and ended its role as a mediator in any peace process.

Meanwhile, the Syrian people on Thursday continued protesting US President Donald Trump’s declaration in several provinces including Damascus, Aleppo, Suweida and Hassakeh.

In Hassakeh, locals gathered in front of the Education Directorate and a similar gathering was held in Qamishli city in front of the National Hospital.

Similarly, locals of Nabe al-Sakher in the Quneitra countryside gathered in condemnation of Trump’s declaration.

Aleppo judges and lawyers protested by standing in front of the Justice Palace.
