Former president of the Syrian National Coalition, Sheikh MoazKhatibsaid the Syrian people demand international guarantees that President Bashar Assad step down as part of any peace deal.
The demand was one of eight points outlined as part of a roadmap agreed by delegates attending a two-day opposition meeting of the coalition and other members meeting in Madrid this week, and were posted on Khatib's Facebook page Tuesday.
In an interview with El-Mundo, Khatib said his goal was "to draft a document that all Syrians can agree on – not just the revolutionaries."
"Many people are waiting for something to unite them," he said.
The opposition Syrian National Coalition is to meet in Istanbul Thursday to decide whether to participate in the road map conference.
