Counter-Terrorism to Top Geneva Agenda: Lavrov

The Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that counter-terrorism will top the agenda of the scheduled international conference on Syria, dubbed Geneva II.

The Russia Today television channel quoted an interview with Lavrov on Russia-24 TV, braodcast on Saturday, calling on the moderate national opposition to unite their efforts with the Syrian government to fight the extremist groups and work for the establishment of an alliance capable of fighting foreign terrorists.

"Geneva II's main task will focus on uniting efforts to fight extremist groups which are trying to establish an Islamic caliphate…and this is a serious matter, " he said.

"The main task of the conferenec attendees should be fighting these groups and the international community should support this initiative."

Lavrov also said that upon reviewing issues related to the conference, "we say there should be an alliance between the Syrian government and the national opposition to fight foreign terrorists who came to Syria from all over the world to carry out their satanic schemes.".
