Doctors in the field hospital the Martyrs of Muzayreeb in the countryside of Daraa have confirmed eight tuberculosis cases in the region.
Activists reported a call from doctors from immediate assistance to isolate the disease and prevent it spreading, as the hospital lacks any kind of vaccines or medical equipment suitable to fight this disease.
Field workers and activists assured Siraj Press that the majority of cases were identified in the camp area in Muzayreeb, asserting that the lack of clean drinking water is the main reason for this disease.
Field doctors fear a significant spread of the disease among people of the region, where there are thousands of displaced people living. Field doctor Sham al-Golani explained that "this disease has been eliminated since the beginning of the 1990s, however, the effects of the siege imposed by the regime on the cities in southern Syria, and the lack of water, medicine and food have made it reappear".
"The disease is carried from person to person through the air. When infected people cough, sneeze or spit, they spread TB germs in the air, and the person needs only to inhale a few of these germs to become infected," he said.
