President Bashar al-Assad stressed the important role BRICS countries are playing in creating a balance in international relations, restricting Western hegemony and their attempts to meddle in other states’ domestic affairs.
Assad’s remarks came during a meeting with South African Deputy Foreign Minister Nomaindia Mfeketo and an accompanying delegation on Thursday.
Talks during the meeting focused on the developments in Syria, where Mfeketo expressed her country’s support for solving the crisis in Syria without any foreign interference and asserted the importance of halting support provided by some states to the armed terrorist groups.
She also stressed South Africa’s support for the Syrian people in facing the terrorist groups.
Talks also dealt with the importance of mutually benefiting from the experiences of the two countries, as Assad said Syria is facing similar challenges to what South Africa witnessed years ago, even if it is manifested in a different way, noting that the West does not want partners but rather countries that depend on it.
