Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov met with his American counterpart on Sunday on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Hangzhou city, China, to discuss the next steps to resolve the crisis in Syria, according to Moscow.
Russia’s Sputnik News Agency quoted its foreign ministry as saying that Lavrov held a meeting with US Secretary of State John Kerry during which they discussed steps to resolving the crisis in Syria, including expanding the UN-backed cessation of hostilities agreement and US-Russian cooperation in combating terrorism.
Earlier on Sunday, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said that Moscow and the Washington are close to reaching an agreement on Syria, stressing that the meeting between Lavrov and Kerry achieved progress in this regard.
For his part, Kerry said following the meeting that a number of technical points were resolved during a bilateral agreement, yet two sticking points remained, adding that he will meet Lavrov again on Monday to address the remaining issues.
