Talks between the Syrian government and opposition groups will officially begin in Geneva on February 23, Yara Sharif, spokeswoman for UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura, announced on Monday.
Sharif told AP that de Mistura has begun sending out formal invitations to the participants in the upcoming Geneva talks.
She added that an unspecified number of invitations has been sent out on Monday to confirm the participation of “the two concerned sides.”
Sharif noted that the delegations would arrive in Geneva around February 20 for pre-consultations with the UN envoy and his team before the formal intra-Syrian talks commence.
