Syrian resistance factions on Monday formed a new operations room in southern Daraa province, aimed at ending attempts by regime forces and its allied militias to take control of neighborhoods in Daraa city.
The Ras al-Sofuf operation room was formed in coordination with Al-Bunyan al-Marsous operation room that is overseeing the "Death Rather Than Humiliation" battle in Daraa al-Balad.
The new operations room includes forces from the Fluja Houran Company, Osod Sunna Company, Jayish al-Thawra, and the Moutasem Billah Brigade.
Ras al-Sofuf operations will focus on the eastern side of Daraa city and around the town of Nuaima. The operations room announced that it had repelled attempts by regime forces to advance in several areas of Nuaima on Sunday evening.
The regime forces, Lebanese Hezbollah and Iranian militias escalated their military action in Daraa city with the aim of taking control of the neighborhoods in Daraa al-Balad.
The Assad regime has stepped up its aerial and ground bombing on the southern province, killing two women and 10 rebel fighters as clashes erupted in the Old City of Daraa, local activists said Sunday.
On Sunday alone, Daraa was attacked with 57 barrel bombs, 25 air raids and 102 surface-to-surface missiles.
Local opposition activist Ahmad al-Masalmeh told AP that pro-regime forces pounded the divided city with airstrikes and artillery fire on Sunday, one day after rebels attacked army positions.
Daraa is understood to lie within one of the four of "de-escalation" zones proposed by Russia, Turkey and Iran, although the precise boundaries of the zones are unclear.
