Italian news agency AKI said a 20-year-old Belgian man has been killed in Syria after joining armed terrorist groups fighting in the country.
The agency quoted local sources saying that the man, named Tareq, is the brother of another young Belgian man recently arrested after returning to Belgium from Syria last week.
There was conflicting information that the two brothers belong to a newly dismantled extremist cell called 'Shariah for Belgium', the agency reported.
Earlier, Belgian officials exchanged accusations over the phenomenon of young Belgians traveling to Syria to fight alongside armed terrorist groups.
A number of ministers faced sharp criticism for failing to address the issue. Belgian Foreign Minister Didier Reynders criticized the refusal of the Belgian interior and justice ministries to provide him with information about the men preparing to enter Syria.
