Aleppo Launches Old Market Renewal Project

Aleppo launched on Thursday a new project to revive the city’s ancient markets, including the rehabilitation of the Khan al-Jumruk Souq and over a hundred shops in the Old City.

The project was implemented by the Aleppo Chamber of Commerce in cooperation with shop and business owners.

During a tour in the area, Internal Trade and Consumer Protection Minister Abdullah al-Gharbi was briefed on the current rehabilitation and maintenance work and the revitalization of the market after it was damaged by terrorism.

Gharbi stressed the government’s support for the restoration of the old marketplaces in all provinces and the preservation of archaeological and historical landmarks.

He said the government plans to organize special events and promotional seminars for Syrian companies and products in order to encourage industrial and commercial production, as well as the exportation of Syrian products to foreign markets.
