Syria has accused some Western officials of providing cover for terrorist groups which are carrying out attacks on Damascus and its countryside, killing and injuring dozens of innocent civilians.
In a letter to the United Nations, the Syrian Foreign Ministry said that armed terrorist groups located in the Eastern Ghouta on Tuesday targeted the capital and its environs with scores of lethal shells, killing and injuring dozens of civilians.
The ministry said that this grave escalation by the terrorists is a continuation of the crimes committed on daily basis by these groups against the citizens in Damascus. Militants fired more than 45 shells at Damascus within just a few hours, claiming the lives of six civilians and injuring 29 more.
The letter noted that these attacks come at a time when some Western officials are carrying out campaigns of direct support for these terrorists, encouraging them to kill and carry out terrorist attacks without fear of accountability.
By denying the Syrian state the right to defend its citizens, fight terrorism and confront those who fund and arm terrorists, these officials are complicit in the terrorists’ crimes against innocent civilians, the ministry said.
This, it added, is part of the underhanded conspiracy concocted by those officials seven years ago, during which all parts of Syria suffered from terrorist bombings and massacres perpetrated by terrorists upon instructions from their masters in the capitals of Western and Arab Gulf states.
