Pro-Assad Militia Commander Killed in Quneitra Suicide Blast

The town of Khan Arnabah, southern Quneitra province, mourned the death of the leader of the First Brigade of the Golan Regiment of the National Defense Forces militia.

The Golan Regiment published on its Facebook page on Monday images of the funeral for Majid Hammoud, who was one of the most prominent commanders of the militia in southern Syria.

Hammoud died from his wounds caused in a suicide bombing that struck him while he met with a number of the militia's fighters and commanders in a building in Khan Arnabah.

The commander had participated in a number of battles on the Quneitra front alongside the regime, “including the battles of the Third Battalion, Hadar sector and Beit Jan, and alongside the Fourth Brigade and at the Al-Amal farms. He and his brigade had the upper hand in [efforts to] recover Tell Ahmar from the opposition forces,” according to pro-regime Al-Khabar TV.

The largely Druze Golan Regiment is deployed in various areas in Quinetra, including Khan Arnabah, Madinat al-Baath, Jaba, Samdaniyeh, Naba al-Fawwar and others. It has also participated in recent battles in the Hama countryside, Palmyra in the Homs countryside and Jobar in Damascus against Syrian opposition forces.
