Media Activist Osama al-Zubi Killed in Daraa IED Blast

Activist Osama al-Zubi was killed on Monday, Aug. 21, by an improvised explosive device on the Rekham-Al-Kark road east of Daraa, the first blast of its kind to target the area since the announcement of a truce on July 9.

The strip, known as the “Road of Death,” has been a target of regime forces and allied militias stationed in the Al-Thala air base west of Suweida.

Activist Mawiya al-Zouabi told All4Syria that an explosive hit a car in which Zubi was traveling, killing the activist, his brother and his nephew.

He added that the explosion occurred on a road that has seen more than 30 explosions since the start of the year.

As one of the first activists in Daraa province, Zubi worked to mobilize the peaceful movement and was arrested twice in 2011. After that he moved on to covering the rebels’ battles in Daraa province and was wounded three times, while he also worked as the director of the Syrian Information Agency office in Daraa.
