Islamist rebels seized the main stronghold of the Islamic State of Iraq and Greater Syria (ISIS) in Dana, in the Idleb province on Thursday after almost one week of clashes, activists with the Syrian Revolution said.


Rebel fighters, who seized ISIS headquarters in Aleppo Wednesday were looking for to extend gains by expelling the al-Qaeda militants from Dana, according to sources.Since Friday, the Syrian Revolutionary Front, along with the nascent Mujahedeen Army and the Islamic Front have been engaged in fierce fighting with ISIS in rebel-held areas.


The latest clashes broke out after residents accused ISIS members of killing a doctor in Syria’s northern province of Aleppo.


The focus of combat has been in opposition areas in Aleppo and Idleb provinces, but Sunday spread to Hama and Raqqa provinces.
