The Syrian Human Rights League learned that Syrian government forces targeted al-Hayat primary school on Wednesday morning in the Qaboun neighborhood, east of the capital Damascus, with two Katyusha missiles, resulting in the death of 13 children and seriously injuring dozens of others.
The number of victims is expected to rise because of the siege and shortage of medical materials within the neighborhood. A truce was reached with regime forces in mid-July in the neighborhood, but the government forces still target the district and besiege it in order to put pressure on residents and push them to fully surrender.
The Qaboun neighborhood is currently home to nearly 40,000 people. It was one of the first neighborhoods in Damascus to revolt against the Assad regime since the outbreak of the revolution in March, 201. Rebels have controlled large parts of it for about two years.
