Syria’s cabinet on Tuesday signed off on the 2018 general state budget at 3.1 trillion Syrian pounds, an increase of 527 billion pounds compared to the 2017 budget.

According to the bill, 2.3 trillion pounds will be allocated for running expenditures, while 825 billion pounds will be allocated for investments.

Social support initiatives, including the Agricultural Production Fund, the National Fund for Social Aid, and subsidies for flour and oil will receive funds of up to 657 billion pounds. Meanwhile, the electricity industry will receive support of up to 700 billion pounds.

The cabinet instructed the Ministry of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform to continue importing cattle, and agreed on allocating 600 million pounds of local revenue to support the independent budget of the province of Suweida with the aim of implementing service projects.
