In a desperate attempt to cover up the crimes of the Assad regime and deceive the Iranian people, as well as the international community, Yahya Rahim Safavi, a senior military advisor to Iran’s supreme leader, has blamed the Syrian opposition for crimes committed by Assad during the past two years, which have led to the death of more than 100.000 Syrian civilians.
Safavi listed various fabrications to cover up Assad’s crimes and justify Iran's policies to support Assad's criminal regime.
Safavi’s statement comes as part of a campaign by Iran aimed at masquerading their aggressive behaviour towards the Syrian people and deceiving the Iranian public.
Iran’s unlimited financial and military support for the Assad regime, and its growing influence in Syria make it as a partner in Assad’s crimes against humanity. Iranian officials think that through lies and fabrications they can deceive the world and evade legal responsibility.
Iran is trading in Syrian blood to consolidate and expand its influence in the region. It backs a tyrannical regime that commits the most heinous of crimes to remain in power. The Iranian regime provides Assad with various support, including the assistance of Hezbollah’s militias.
Iran will never be able, through its campaigns of disinformation, to conceal its involvement in shedding Syrian blood and destroying Syria. It bears full responsibility, along with Assad’s tyrannical regime, for committing war crimes against the Syrian people.
