The Islamic State of Iraq and Greater Syria (ISIS) launched three suicide bombings against forces loyal to Bashar Assad in the eastern city of Deir El-Zor, the group said in a statement issued on Saturday.
The Al-Qaeda affiliated group said that more than 1,000 jihadists were involved in battles to liberate the oil-wealthy region of Assad strongholds.
The statement confirmed that no rebels from the western-backed Free Syrian Army, nor any other opposition group, had participated in the battles.
The suicide bombers targeted regular army blockades before storming the regime military bases and the security compounds with mortar shells and grad missiles.
Activists said two officers of the Republican Guard, Ala Muhammad Sulaiman and Ali Haitham Aliman were killed by the rebels.
