Negotiation Committee Demands Implementation of Resolution 2254

The Committee emphasized that any settlement initiative for Syria should enable political transition and justice, according to Baladi News.

On Saturday, the Syrian Negotiation Committee issued a statement calling on all countries to fully implement Resolution 2254 in any settlement initiative for Syria. The Committee emphasized that any such initiative must include the complete implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 2254, which enables political transition and justice, the release of detainees, the fate of forcibly disappeared individuals, the voluntary return of displaced persons and refugees, and the holding of fair elections.

Moreover, the Committee expressed concern that some friendly countries have adopted an unclear policy and strategy toward the Syrian issue, which could result in the issue being closed without addressing its underlying causes.

First Comment from Syrian Opposition after Mekdad’s Visit to Saudi Arabia

The statement emphasized that the outbreak of the Ukrainian war has worsened the ambiguity and turmoil surrounding the Syrian issue. This is due to the lack of clarity in the policies of friendly countries and the absence of any effective strategy towards it. This allows some to present visions that aim to close the Syrian issue while leaving its root causes and explosive factors unresolved.

The Committee stated that any solution without the full implementation of international resolutions will only prolong the conflict, increase the spread of terrorism and drugs, and destabilize the region. The Syrian people will not allow their cause to be liquidated, and their demands will not be ignored.

There is currently an acceleration of Arab normalization with the Syrian regime, especially by Saudi Arabia, which is leading efforts to fully restore the Syrian regime to the League under the umbrella of the Gulf Cooperation Council.
