SOC Visits Germany to Discuss Ways to Achieve Political Transition in Syria

President of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), Salem Al-Meslet, visited the German Foreign Ministry in Berlin and met with the Director of Political Affairs at the German Foreign Ministry, Christian Bock, and the German Special Envoy to Syria, Stefan Schneck.

Meslet was accompanied by Vice-President Abdulahad Astepho, and the SOC’s representative in Germany Fadel Al-Rifai. Al-Meslet stressed the need to support a political transition in Syria in accordance with UN resolutions on Syria, most importantly Resolutions 2118 and 2254, ensuring accountability and the release of detainees.

Meslet also stressed that the Assad regime had committed countless crimes to the point where any attempt to rehabilitate it will be futile.

The two sides discussed means of European support, especially from Germany, for the liberated areas, and the conditions of Syrian refugees in Germany.
