Russian Special Presidential Envoy for Syria, Alexander Lavrentiev, expressed on Monday his country’s readiness to resume talks with the US on Syria if the former showed a willingness to engage in such talks.
This came in an interview with the Russian news agency TASS.
Lavrentiev said Russia could go back to talks on Syria, “but only if the United States shows its readiness,” claiming that all communication between the countries had been suspended by the US.
The Russian Special Presidential Envoy noted that contact between the two countries on Syria “is dim as yet.”
“I believe that it’s possible to talk to them in principle. There are reasonable people among the American establishment who can listen and make normal, balanced decisions that will be in the interests of not only the United States but also Russia,” he said.
