Under the slogan “Together we spread peace” the International Conference of Religions and Beliefs of Mesopotamia kicked off in Syria’s northeastern city of Qamishli on Monday.
The preparatory committee invited several religious and intellectual figures and community influential holders from Europe, Egypt, Morocco, Kurdistan Region of Iraq as well as religious figures from Syria to attend the conference.
During the first day of the conference, letters directed to the conference and speeches of attendees were read.
Other participants abroad, who could not attend for different reasons, also spoke during the conference.

The first session of the conference was titled “The issues that preclude religion to be a basis for peaceful coexistence”. Member of the National Council for Combating Terrorism and Extremism in Egypt Dr. Hani Labib, the Indian activist in social issues and building bridges through religions and races Mileen Dawani, President of the U.S. Committee for International Religious Freedom (USCIRF), Nadine Maenza, and member of the presidential council for the Democratic Union Party (PYD) Foza al-Youssef lectured during the conference.
The second session of the International Conference of Religions and Beliefs of Mesopotamia in Qamishli was titled “Factors that led to violations practiced against nations in the name of religion”. All of Nasim Shemmo, head of Yazidi Religion Department in Rojava University, coordinators of the Middle East programmer in the world council of churches Michael Neser, member of the Board of Trustees of the International Union of Muslim Scholars Ali Hussein Fadlallah, and the spokesperson of Yarsanism Monzer Bassam lectured during the conference.
