Syria, WFP Discuss Cooperation to Deliver Humanitarian Aid to Syrians

The Foreign Minister of Syria and the regional director of the WFP discussed the delivery of aid to Syrians without politicization, according to the Syria Times.

Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of Syria Faisal al-Mekdad and Director of the World Food Program (WFP) Regional Office Corinne Fleischer discussed during a meeting on Wednesday cooperation between the Syrian government and the WFP in the delivery of aid.

Mekdad hailed the efforts being exerted by the WFP to deliver humanitarian aid to the Syrian citizens in need, stressing the importance of securing the delivery of aid, adhering to the principles of humanitarian action, and avoiding the politicization practiced by some Western countries in this respect.

The Syrian top diplomat talked about the critical economic and living situation that the Syrian people are passing through as a direct result of the unilateral coercive measures imposed by the United States and some western countries on them. He urged the WFP and other humanitarian organizations working and providing aid in Syria to deal transparently with the situation in Syria and to condemn the immoral coercive measures which affect all walks of the Syrians’ life.

Oh her part, Fleischer vowed that the WFP will spare no effort to guarantee the delivery of humanitarian aid to the categories in need.

She discussed the current work plans and the possibility of expanding the program’s work in Syria during the coming months.
