Negative Consequences for Syrian Negotiations Committee Following Failure of Fifth Round

Civil activist Muhammad Hammud has claimed that the Syrian government delegation is intentionally halting discussion’s on constitutional articles, writes North Press.

“Negative effects will face the Negotiations Committee, [Syrian National] Coalition, and the opposition due to the failure of the fifth round in Geneva,” civil activist Muhammad Hammud said on Monday.

Hammud, who resides in Damascus, told North Press that “the meetings of the Constitutional Committee concluded in utter failure, while it is basically a waste of time at Syrians’ expense and destruction of the country.”

He believes that the meetings of the Constitutional Committee will not continue due to the Syrian government delegation’s disagreement to discuss the constitutional articles, and “it does so intentionally to waste time for the fifth time.”

He pointed out that “the first negative effect that the Negotiations Committee, Coalition, and opposition will witness is the resignation of opposition delegation member General Awad al-Ali of the Constitutional Committee due to the futility of the meetings and wasting of time.”

The Russian guarantor “is still watching and waiting for an American signal helping it to overcome this crisis,” according to the civil activist.

Meanwhile, another negative side effect is “to reveal the Coalition and Negotiations Committee’s weak and bad performance,” Hammud said.

He pointed out that “disputes start to come to the surface, confirming that meetings of the Constitutional Committee will not take place anymore, and this is what the Syrian government delegation seeks.”

Not confessing the failure, Russia announced the holding of a new meeting of the Astana process “to get out of the trouble which will help to revive the work of the Constitutional Committee, when it is basically stillborn,” he stressed.
