Cases of thieving and plundering have increased greatly in the southern province of Daraa, amid the Assad regime’s neglect of these incidents, which is increasing the suffering of civilians who live with assassinations, arrests, and in dire economic conditions.
Daraa24 Network, a local monitoring group, said that a person from the town of Dael was injured in a robbery, during which his van was stolen. He was robbed after receiving an emergency call regarding his wife’s work as a midwife, but as he drove down the agricultural road connecting the towns of Dael and Nawa, an armed group stopped him, shot him and stole his car.
Daraa24 indicated that this case is not the first incident in the city, where an armed group stole a civilian’s car. Previously a Kia 4000 agricultural vehicle was stolen from another civilian.
It reported that a similar incident occurred recently in the town of Saida, east of Daraa, where masked gunmen raided a house, where two young men were present. The gunmen hit one of them with a sharp object until he was unconscious, and forced the second at gunpoint to tie him down.
The network stated that it had detected many cases of motorbike theft in many areas of the province, either stealing them from people as they were riding them, or stealing them from in front of homes and shops.
The network also pointed out that armed robbery has increased in recent times in many cities and towns in Daraa, with an absence of any controls by any governmental or local authorities.
The security authorities have been informed of these crimes but have not taken any measures. This comes amid poor living conditions and a great need.
