Moscow: Idleb Must Eventually Return to the Syrian State

Russia's Deputy Foreign Minister said that taking heavy weapons from the opposition groups and terrorists will be difficult reports SANA.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin said that Idleb will inevitably return to the Syrian state.

Speaking to Sputnik on Monday, Vershinin said that in the end Idleb must be returned to the control of the Syrian state, pointing out that the Idleb agreement, which was reached in Sochi, is being implemented and the atmosphere has changed for the better.

He added that the agreement prepared the conditions necessary for the political process, indicating a possibility to reduce the suffering of citizens in Syria and mainly in Idleb where terrorists maintain a stranglehold on the civilian population, creating intolerable conditions for them.

The Russian diplomat said Moscow considers the task of removing heavy weapons and extremist groups from Idleb “possible”, adding that the separation of terrorists and “opposition” is a complex issue.

He noted that the Turkish side is working, as part of the Sochi agreement, in this direction, and Moscow wants to see good results in this regard.
