Ashton Stresses Need for Political Solution in Syria

High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Catherine Ashton, has stressed the need to find a political solution for the crisis in Syria and that no decision has been made on any potential military intervention in the country.

In a press statement in Tallinn, Estonia, Asthon said that no decision has been made yet on military intervention in Syria, and that support from the U.N. Security Council for any such step is still very important.

She said that the world needs to find a political solution for the crisis in Syria, noting that while it is difficult for the 28 members of the EU to reach common ground, it is still considering "various options."
