The Islamic Ahrar al-Sham Movement, Syria’s largest Salafi faction, has denied any engagement or involvement in the fighting that occurred in Azaz, northern Aleppo or in Abu Kamal, near the Syrian-Iraqi borders.
In a statement obtained by Zaman al-Wasl, the Islamic group said "none of our fighters have participated in the fighting which took place in Azaz or Abo Kamal", adding that the real news should be considered as "only what our media center publishes or what our senior leaders say".
