The administrators behind a Facebook page titled 'The popular campaign to nominate Moaz al-Khatib' have suddenly stopped the campaign and deactivated the page.
The administrators said the decision was made in response to a request by Khatib and that any similar page that adopts the same project is not official.
Khatib has previously denied plans to run for the presidency under the current circumstances, saying "I don’t know who is behind the campaign and I don’t have such ambitions".
