Syrian rebels attacked several regime points in the Leramoun region, where the Air Force Intelligence branch is located in Aleppo on Monday.
The attack, carried out by the Nusra Front and the Islamic Front, led to the seizure of several buildings and factories where regime forces were centered.
Violent confrontations continued since the early morning and sounds of explosions could be heard when the rebels targeted Zahra region with heavy artillery. Meanwhile, regime forces responded by shelling liberated neighborhoods nearby.
An opposition military source said that the goal of opening the front of Leramoun was to "decompress" military pressure on the other fronts, where violent battles are being fought against regime forces in Aleppo.
The rebels have declared a siege around the area surrounding the building of the Air Force Intelligence. The fierce battles against regime troops enabled the rebels to liberate several locations in Leramoun, Bani Zaid and Khalidieh, while it was difficult to storm the Air Force Intelligence building because of its strategic location and regime's enormous military force fighting there.
