Liberation of the Central Prison in Daraa

Sources say 294 prisoners were released, including women and Christian girls

Factions fighting with the Free Army announced on Thursday the liberation of Daraa Central Prison in the area of Ghuraz.

Media sources told All4Syria that 294 prisoners were released, including women and Christian girls. Other media sources reported that the more than 400 prisoners were released and were presented to Shariah courts later to review files on each.

Sources said citizens from Al-Walad village who were arrested during the Sednaya massacre and sentenced for life imprisonment were among that among those released.

Fighting factions also announced they had taken control over a military location to the south east of the prison, after fierce battles in which regime forces lost about 50 soldiers.

Following the liberation of Daraa, the rebels turned to the siege of Granaries, which is a strategic reservoir. Meanwhile, fierce clashes at the Air Force Intelligence base in the province continue.

Daraa Central Prison is located in Ghuraz region, which is about 10 km away from the center of the province.
