Activists on Tuesday circulated reports that Bashar al-Assad has dismissed his cousin and first aide, General Brigadier Hafez Makhlouf, from his post as head of Interior Security.
Makhlouf has been the target of rumors before. Only days ago, social media pages said Makhlouf had absconded.
Some activists reacted cautiously, saying the news could not be confirmed until state-run media reports Makhlouf's dismissal.
