Civil Society Groups Call for End to Barrel Bombs

Signatories of new campaign urge international community to support peace talks and the cessation of regime barrel bombing in opposition-held areas

Dozens of civil society groups have launched a campaign titled the "Planet of Syria". The campaign, comprised of peaceful activists, asks the world to intervene to stop the dropping of explosive barrels by the Syrian regime on several areas, hoping to promote peace talks.

The statement was signed by 85 active groups in the international community, including: the Syrian Network for Human Rights, the Center for Documentation of Violations in Syria, The Day After organization, in addition to womens, Assyrian, Kurdish, human rights and media organizations.

The signatory groups – scattered in areas under the control of multiple parties – work with local communities on education, protection, peace and ways of living, in addition to documenting human rights violations.

The statement also called on the international community to work towards peace by stopping the explosive barrels used by the Syrian regime since the end of 2013 in opposition-held areas, and to support peace talks between all parties.
