Lahham Meets With Parliamentarians at IPU Meetings

Speaker of the Syrian People’s Assembly Mohammad Jihad al-Lahham met with delegation representatives participating in the 132nd session of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) currently being held in Hanoi, Vietnam.

Lahham met with IPU head Saber Chowdhury, stressing the need for the Union to play a role in confronting terrorism and in pressuring governments to stop inciting chaos, calling for a lifting of the sanctions imposed by a number of countries on Syria.

The speaker also met with head of the Czech delegation Stanislav Grospic to discuss the development of parliamentary relations to boost cooperation and friendship between the two countries.

Meeting Italian senators Pier Ferdinando Casini and Francesco Amoruso, Lahham called on European parliaments to stand for justice and people’s interests against terrorists, noting that Europe will become vulnerable to terrorism if the world fails to confront this threat.

Lahham also met the Deputy Speaker of Afghanistan’s House of Elders, Mohammad Alam Ezedyar, to discuss parliamentary relations as well as the possibility of cooperation in combating terrorism.

The speaker also met Armenian National Assembly Deputy Karine Atshemyan, also to discuss developing parliamentary cooperation and stressing the need to further strengthen historic relations between the two countries.
