The Syrian government has been working diligently to provide support for the people of Aleppo since the roads connecting the city were reopened by the Syrian army, Prime Minister Wael al-Halki has said.
In a phone call with Syrian TV on Saturday, Halki said that shipments sent to Aleppo on Thursday and Friday amounted to 108 tankers of heating fuel, 61 tankers of gasoline and four gas tankers, while a second shipment of 52 orders of heating fuel, 25 of gasoline, and eight of gas were sent on Saturday, stressing that such shipments will continue.
The PM asserted that further support will be provided to Aleppo within the coming days, which will include petroleum products and essential supplies, stressing that breaking the siege imposed on Aleppo by terrorists has been at the forefront of the government’s concerns.
According to Halki, 13 trucks carrying vegetables, fruit, sugar, rice, detergents, oil, and canned food arrived in Aleppo on Saturday, with two more shipments scheduled for Sunday and Monday, adding that work is underway to open retail outlets to provide supplies for the people of Aleppo.
Halki also addressed the issue of power outages in Aleppo, stating that the government is undertaking significant efforts to deal with the problem, adding that constant terrorist attacks on power infrastructure, particularly on the al-Zarba-Hama power line, are largely responsible for the blackouts.
Earlier, Internal Trade and Consumer Protection Minister Jamal Shahin said that 12 trucks carrying consumer products have arrived in Aleppo province, confirming the shipment is the first of many that will be sent to the province to provide for citizens’ needs.
During a visit to Aleppo on Saturday, Shahin met with officials in the city, including Governor Mohammad Marwan Olabi, who noted that efforts are being made to stabilize market prices.
Around 75 tons of fruit and vegetables arrived at Aleppo late last week, and were distributed following the reopening of the Aleppo-Khanasser-Ethriya-Salamiya road on November 4.
