A group of activists in the U.S. launched a campaign to collect donations for the children of Syria for one day, on 3 December, aiming to raise $56,000 dollars.
Activist Kenan Rahmani told All4Syria in a telephone interview that the fundraiser for was to benefit the Syrian people, especially children, and involved ten teams across the U.S.
Rahmani said fundraising was conducted through a website on 3 December, to coincide with the Thanksgiving holiday in the U.S.
Rahmani said a similar campaign was carried out last year by the activist Hassan al-Masri, when he said that he would not shave his moustache until he secured the livelihoods of 100 orphans.
However, he said, this year’s campaign was on a larger scale.
“We decided to launch the campaign on 3 December…which is famous in the United States. Charities asked citizens not to shave their moustaches while people need help, so was our motto was: We will not shave our moustaches until we warm the children in Syria.”
