Fahim Abou Issa, commander of the FSA-affiliated Sultan Murad Brigade, has accused the US of working to prolong the fighting in Syria and starting a war of attrition with the plan of dividing the region through their support for Kurdish groups to divide Syria in support of Israel.
On Saturday, the US Department of State denied any relationship between the Syria’s People’s Protection Units (YPG) and Turkey’s Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), which is on the US terrorist list.
Speaking to Zaman al-Wasl, Abou Issa said that the announcement “is suitable for Americans but for us as the Sultan Murad brigade we conclude that the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) is a continuation of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), which is on the international terrorism list.”
Abou Issa referred to comments by US Secretary of Defense Ashton Carter to a Senate panel on April 28, in which he said he believed the Democratic Union Party (PYD) and its military wing the YPG had substantial ties to the outlawed PKK.
The rebel commander said: “America insists on supporting the YPG to complete the Kurdish state project in northern Syria, and we as a free army are present to sabotage this plan and defend our land, and we will not give up on our rights whatever the price.”
“[We] are paying a high price and we will continue to pay a high price, and we hope there will be future changes in international stances,” he added.
