Syria has condemned Israel for its attack on a military airport west of Damascus early Saturday, calling on the international community to punish Israel and take measures to ensure such attacks are not repeated.
In a statement to the UN, Syria’s Foreign Ministry said that Israeli forces launched the attack shortly after midnight on Friday as part a long series of aggressions since the beginning of the terrorist war in Syria.
The ministry said that Israeli aircrafts fired a large number of missiles from the Sea of Galilee area, landing in the surroundings of the Mazzeh Military Airport at 12:25 am, causing a fire to break out. It pointed out that the attack would not have occurred without the direct support of the outgoing US administration, as well as France and Britain.
The Ministry urged the United Nations and the UN Security Council to take immediate action to punish Israel for its actions and to prevent similar attacks from being repeated.
According to the ministry, all Israel’s past attacks on Syria have coincided with defeats inflicted on armed terrorist groups, especially Nusra Front and its allies in east Aleppo, and after reconciliation efforts which led to the expulsion of terrorists from areas surrounding Damascus.
The statement said that Israel’s desperate and open support for terrorist organizations makes it a partner in the killing of Syrians and the destruction of their achievements.
