The Speaker of the People’s Assembly, Mohammad Jihad al-Laham met on Monday with the Speaker of the Algerian National Popular Council, Mohammad al-Arabi Wild Khalifa, to discuss the latest developments in the region and the terrorist phenomenon.
During the meeting, Laham pointed out the suffering Syria has endured due to terrorism and foreign intervention which has facilitated the infiltration of terrorists from more than 83 countries into Syria.
Laham also referred to what he said was a policy of "double standards" in applying international resolutions, saying that the U.S. has formed a coalition to combat terrorist organizations in cooperation with countries which are known for their hostility to Syria.
Khalifa said Algeria has always stressed the need for drying up terrorism resources, adding that his country is committed to the principle of non-intervention in the domestic affairs of sovereign countries.
In a statement to the press after the meeting, Laham described the "deep and strong relations" which connect the Syrian and Algerian peoples.
He invited Speaker of the Algerian National Popular Council to visit Damascus to boost ties between the two councils.
Laham arrived in Algiers on Monday for a four-day visit to the country.
