A document obtained by Zaman al-Wasl has confirmed that a meeting took place between the Vice President of the Interim Government, Iyad Qudsi and an important political figure who until today is strongly affiliated with the Assad regime.
According to the document, Qudsi individually met with Abdullah Dardari on 6 April, 2014, in Germany, on the sidelines of the meeting of Friends of Syria on the same date.
Despite being described as a neutral representative of the United Nations, Dardari went to Damascus about a month ago in a visit described as “related to his work in managing economic development and globalization at ESCWA, but in fact asked to meet with head of the regime Bashar Assad to arrange a "political position", according to sources.
Dardari, who is a chief economist at the Beirut-based U.N. Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) and a former deputy Prime Minister in the regime government, is one of Assad's closest allies and aides in addition to being a close friend to Bashar’s late brother, Basel.
